Improvement will be slowed by lockdown again: Nomura
New Delhi: Japan’s brokerage company Nomura said on Monday that the re-lockdown in Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh may slow the pace of economic recovery. According to Nomura, this will remain a worrying scenario for the resumption of market activity. Nomura has prepared an index to measure the improvement in market activity after the epidemic.
Nomura said the index gained a slight lead in the week ended 22 November. But it is still below the level before the Corona epidemic. The index has seen a sharp improvement in Apple’s condition which has finally reached pre-Corona levels. At the same time Google continues to improve. However, in many states, local lockdowns are being done due to increasing cases of Covid-19. There is concern among analysts about this. Nomura warned that ‘lockdowns could reduce the pace of gradual recovery in the next two to three months’.
It is noteworthy that Maharashtra on Monday issued standard operating protocols for those traveling from states experiencing more of Covid-19 infection. States that had more cases in the early days of infection have also issued warnings that a second wave of pandemics may come like a tsunami and may lead to early lockdown.
Nomura said that the companies making the vaccine are constantly working on it and progress is also being seen in this direction, but how much protection will come from this is uncertain.
