Commerce, Ministry of AYUSH will work together to increase the export of AYUSH products
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of AYUSH have decided to work together to set up an Export Promotion Council to promote the export of AYUSH products (herbal products with medicinal properties). This decision was taken at a recent joint review meeting. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik attended the meeting.
It has also been decided that the Ministry of AYUSH will work with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to develop international standards for AYUSH products and services. According to the statement, “It was also decided in the meeting that the entire AYUSH sector will work to gain competitiveness in terms of price and quality to speed up AYUSH exports.”
The review meeting was held through video conference on 4 December. About 50 industry and trade leaders associated with the AYUSH sector participated. More than 2,000 participants from the region also joined the program. In the meeting, Naik said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, there is increasing interest in the world about AYUSH based products for immunity and treatment.
According to the statement, he said, “in view of increasing demand in India and abroad, there is a need to increase trade in AYUSH sector ….”. Goyal said, “The increase in exports of AYUSH products in recent months is a sign of its popularity in many countries. To promote exports, standardization of HS codes related to exports will be considered on a priority basis.” HS Code is a globally accepted standard describing the type of goods.
