Electricity companies’ dues on DISCOM rose by 35% to Rs 1.41 lakh crore in November
The arrears of discoms or distribution companies of power generating companies increased by 35% to Rs 1.41 lakh crore in November last year. It was Rs 1.04 lakh crore in the same period of 2019. This information was given by the PRAAPTI portal in November. The portal was launched in May 2018 for transparency in the procurement of power companies and distribution companies.
DISCOM owes Rs 1.29 lakh crore despite grace period
Despite a 45-day grace period by the power generating companies, Discom was owed Rs 1.29 lakh crore in November, up from Rs 93.21 thousand crore in November 2019. In most such cases, the producing companies charge a penalty interest after a 45-day grace period. According to the portal, there was an increase on a monthly basis in November last year. Earlier, in October, discom owed Rs 1.26 lakh crore to power generating companies.
Discoms owed the most of the major states of the country
Most of the discoms in the outstanding cases are from the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Haryana and Tamil Nadu. Of the total overdue of Rs 1.29 lakh crore, the share of private companies is 34.01% and that of government companies is 34.27%.
