Computer sales grew 11% in 2020, the second-largest growth in the past 10 years; Lenovo dominated the market share

According to a report, worldwide demand for computers was fierce in the last quarter of 2020. This includes desktops, notebooks or laptops and tablets. During this period, 90.3 million (about 9.03 crore) computers were sold. This is 25% higher on a year-on-year basis. A total of 297 million (about 297 million) computers were sold in 2020 with a growth of 11%. This is the second-largest growth since 2010. Computer sales grew by 17% in 2010.

Growth in this segment may continue in 2021 as well. According to the report, computer sales are projected to grow by 1.4% in 2021. The first quarter of 2021 is expected to grow at a 43% year-on-year basis. During this period, about 118 million (11.8 crore) computers can be sold.

Laptop demand rose by 27.9% in 2020: The highest demand for laptop was in 2020. Laptop demand was 27.9% higher than in 2021. Demand for tablets also grew by 26.5%. However, desktop demand declined by 23.1%. That is, most people are moving towards laptops and tablets. It is estimated that in 2021 laptop sales will increase by 3.3% and tablet demand will decrease by 1.0%.

Computer sales may decline in the last two quarters of 2021. The third quarter of 2021 may fall by 11% and the fourth quarter by 15%. However, the first two quarters show growth on a year-on-year basis.

In 2020, Chinese company Lenovo’s computer sales were the highest. Lenovo ranked first with 72,629 computer sales and 24.5% market share. At the same time, HP came second with 67,573 computer sales and 22.8% market share. In the last quarter of the year too, computer sales of these companies were the highest.

Reasons for increasing computer sales worldwide:

Work from home: Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, companies from all over the world gave work from home to their employees. In such a situation, demand for desktop, laptop and tablet increased. In many offices, 2 to 3 employees worked in different shifts on a computer. Everyone needed different computers during work from home.

Online Study: Due to Coronavirus, the worldwide education system went online. Schools, colleges, coaching centers all went towards online study. In such a situation, the demand for computers, laptops and tablets also increased here.

Work from home will continue: Even though the Covid vaccine is ready, the risk of coronavirus has not decreased yet. In such a situation, work from home culture will continue in many countries. Big companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft are also not finishing work from home.

Permanent work from home: Many companies are adopting work from home culture forever. For this, they have also offered to their employees. They say that employees can adopt it by getting their salary reduced.

Demand in business increased: Even small and big businesses around the world went digital during the Corona epidemic. People have bought computers to maintain accounts. At the same time, the growth of virtual communication in the business also increased its sales.
