Chinese company Oppo in India is moving fast towards 5G, the company will file 80 patents
5G has not arrived in India yet, although many tech companies are already preparing. An official of the Chinese company Oppo said that the company is in the process of filing 80 patents in India. This move of the company makes it clear that Oppo is fully focusing on building the 5G device ecosystem this year. OPPO Vice President and Research and Development Head Taslim Arif said that setting up a 5G lab in the country would reduce dependence on the company’s headquarters and other centers of the smart devices firm.
In research and development in India, we not only want to be the first mover on 5G, but we are also contributing a lot in IPR. We have filed more than 200 IP (Intellectual Property). Of these, about 120 have already been filed while around 80 are in process. All this has happened prominently in the last year and a half. Arif gave this information at the launching event of Reno 5 Pro 5G and Enco X Wireless earphones. The Reno 5 Pro 5G (Price Rs 35,990) and Enco X Wireless Earphones (Price Rs 9,990) will be available for sale on Flipkart, the company’s mainline retailers and e-commerce platform from 22 January.
This year, focus will be on IoT and 5G
Arif said, for 2021, our main focus will be IoT (Internet of Things) and 5G, as we believe that once 5G arrives, interactions within the device will also increase. IoT will also play an important role. In that direction, we are launching Enco X. He said R&D in India contributed to the highlight video feature based on 5G, a seamless download experience, and artificial intelligence with the company’s headquarters in China.
“Reno Pro 5 offers the industry’s first AI highlight video. This is the first time an AI highlight video will be introduced in a smartphone. Since we have our own setup, we will do whatever research on 5G is required. After that, challenges related to battery, video experience will emerge. We do all the stability, video experience and new product testing by ourselves in India.”
Company will invest heavily in India
In the Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G, the company has provided 4350mAh battery and flash charge facility. The company claims that flash charge technology can charge the device up to 100 percent in 30 minutes and provide up to four hours of video playback with a 5-minute charge. Arif said a huge amount of investment is in the pipeline for the India R&D Center and will be built as the business grows.
According to a data agency, by October 2020, Oppo is at the third position with a record 40.2 percent year-on-year growth. According to Oppo, the Reno series has recorded more than 50 percent growth in July-September 2020 compared to the previous quarter.
