TikTok’s company Bytedance will say goodbye to India

Chinese social media company ByteDance has announced the closure of its business in India. Restrictions continue on the services of this company, which owns TikTok and Halo Apps in India. In an email sent to employees, TikTok’s global interim head Vanessa Pappas and vice president of global business solutions Blake Chandlee explained the company’s decision that it was reducing team size and that the decision would affect all employees in India.

Officials expressed uncertainty over the company’s return to India, but said it was expected to happen in the coming years. “We do not know when we will be returning to India, we are relying on our flexibility and wish to do so in the future,” the email said.

According to a source, the company organized a town hall on Wednesday, where it told about shutting down India’s business. When a spokesperson of TikTok was contacted about this, he said that the company was following the Government of India’s order issued on 29 June 2020.

Let us know that recently it was reported that the 59 apps which were banned in the first phase, including TikTok, are not going to return to India. The government has permanently banned 59 mobile apps like TikTok, WeChat and UC Browser. This information has been received from sources in the Ministry of Information Technology.

After the ban on apps, the government questioned these companies regarding data collection and storage, which these companies answered but the government is not satisfied with the companies’ reply. The ministry has also sent a notice to these companies last week.
