Facebook smartwatch will be launched with WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger support, will compete with Apple Watch!

Facebook is working on a smartwatch that will help users send messages and take advantage of health and fitness features through their other services including WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. A report said that the smartwatch may be available for sale next year, but Facebook has not yet shared any information on it. Facebook’s smartwatch will join the company’s fast-growing hardware ecosystem, including virtual reality headsets, video-calling devices, and the upcoming Augmented Reality (AR) Smart Glass. It is believed that it will compete with Apple Watch. Facebook also shared plans to introduce Ray-Ban branded eyeglasses as part of Project Aria in September last year.

According to a report, Facebook is developing an Android-based smartwatch. However, it is unclear whether the smartwatch will run on Google’s Wear OS. Citing people with information about the device, the report said that the smartwatch may be available for sale next year. The Facebook Smartwatch (not the official name) will be equipped with health and fitness features, which is quite common for smartwatches. But it is interesting that the smartwatch will reportedly give users the option to send messages using several Facebook services – possibly these services may include Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. It is also said to include cellular connectivity support in smartwatches. Facebook is also reportedly developing its own operating system, which could work on future launches by the company.

The Facebook smartwatch will be part of the company’s hardware ecosystem, which currently includes an Oculus Virtual Reality headset and a series of video calling devices called Portal. The series consists of Portal TV, Portal, Portal+, and Portal Mini.
