There is still more to wait for Tata’s super app, what is so special about this
The launch of Tata Digital’s Super App has been postponed once again. It is because of this that the company is waiting for the approval of the Competition Commission of India in the matter of the deal for the acquisition of BigBasket. Tata’s Super App was scheduled to be launched in March 2021. The BigBasket deal is the main entry point for the Tata group’s online consumer space.
What is this super app?
In fact, the Tata group wants to launch an omnichannel digital platform bringing together its various consumer businesses. Super App primarily serves as a one-stop shop for various products and services. In August 2020, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said that the Tata group’s omnichannel digital platform would be a super app. Services available on the Super App include food and grocery ordering, fashion and lifestyle, consumer electronics and consumer durables, insurance and financial services, education, healthcare bill payments, etc.
First launch was in 2020
The first Tata Super App was scheduled to be launched in late 2020. It was then decided to launch in early March 2021. Officials associated with the case say that the Tata group is trying to accomplish many incomplete things. According to an official, Tata Digital is a new entity. Integration with internal business structures and management has its own challenges. But we are expecting the official plan to be offered soon.
The deal was done in February
The Tata Group and Big Basket signed a $1.2 billion deal in February 2021. Following this, the Tata Group’s stake in BigBasket rose to 60-63 percent. Immediately after the deal, the Tata Group applied for statutory and regulatory approvals from the National Company Law Tribunal and other authorities. A legal advisor associated with the group says that the competition is expected to seal the deal soon. Big deals usually take a month to get approved.
