Apple may cut production of iPhone 12 Mini by more than 70%, its demand in the market is the lowest
American tech company Apple is planning to cut production of the iPhone 12 Mini in the first half of this year. According to a report, the company can cut the production of this handset by 70% or more. Apple had cut orders for all its iPhone models by around 20% since December.
Plan to secure iPhone 12 series components
The company last year asked its suppliers to secure components and parts for 96 million handsets (about 9.6 crore). This included all handsets in the iPhone 12 series. This includes parts of the company’s first 5G capable phone for the first 6 months of 2021. It also includes the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE models.
Apple has also asked some of its suppliers to require about 100 million iPhone components for the first half of the year so that the components do not reduce the global production capacity.
7.5 crore iPhone production target
The company is now aiming for a production of about 75 million (about 7.5 crore) units. This is slightly more than iPhone shipments in the same period last year. According to some reports, the company has told suppliers that it is planning to make 230 million (about 23 crore) iPhones for 2021. This will be 11% more than last year.
Impact of poor demand on the production of iPhone 12 Mini
Recently, JP Morgan Chase said in a forecast report that Apple may discontinue its production in the second quarter of the year due to poor demand for the iPhone mini. It was also said in the report that the company can launch the next-generation iPhone 2021 in the second half with the iPhone 12 series.
According to the analyst, the company can increase the sales of the iPhone 12 Pro Max to 11 million units. At the same time, it can increase 2 million units of iPhone 12 Pro and 8 million units of iPhone 11.
