Make in India: Apple begins production of iPhone 12 in India

Apple India has started the production of iPhone 12 in India. The company said on Thursday that we have started production of the iPhone 12 in India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market for our local customers. It is a matter of pride for us.

However, the company did not disclose the name of the supplier. Two sources involved in the matter said that Taiwanese manufacturing company Foxconn will produce the device at Apple’s Tamil Nadu plant.

However, Foxconn did not comment on the matter. Due to the trade war between the US and Beijing, Apple is moving some areas of its production to other markets outside of China.

A person associated with the case said in November that Foxconn was set to bring production of some iPads and MacBooks from China to Vietnam at Apple’s behest. Apple started iPhone production in India in 2017 through Wistron, another Vietnam-based supply company.

Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron will jointly produce 90 million iPhones in India in the next five years. This will prove to be helpful in achieving the Indian government’s $6.7 billion smartphone export target.

There were reports last month that Apple is planning to produce iPad tablets in India. Union Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a tweet that our effort to make India a hub for manufacturing mobile and spare parts is attracting the attention of global companies. Apple’s production of iPhone 12 in India is pointing to this. This will also create a large number of employment opportunities.
