Xiaomi will become the third-largest smartphone vendor this year, Samsung will remain on top
Xiaomi has been ruling the Indian smartphone space for a long time. Strategy Analytics reported in its report that Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi will overtake Huawei to achieve third place in the world’s smartphone space in 2021. The research note also states that ‘Xiaomi will emerge as the third-largest global smartphone vendor to surpass Huawei’.

The report shows that Xiaomi is gaining considerable popularity in Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe. “For 2021, we believe that Xiaomi will overtake Huawei to become the world’s third-largest smartphone vendor.” “Xiaomi is doing well in the markets of India and Russia, and has been very aggressive in Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe as well,” says Abhilash Kumar, smartphone analyst at Strategy Analytics.
2021 will be the year of Chinese smartphone vendors
Linda Sui, Senior Director of Strategy Analytics, further stated that 2021 will be the ‘Year of Chinese Smartphone Vendors’ which includes brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. The report states that these three vendors could be the top-three players in the Asia-Pacific region thanks to aggressive marketing, expansion of channel footprints and competitive pricing.
Transsion Holdings may beat Samsung in Africa and Middle East regions
The Strategy Analytics report further states that Transsion Holdings, which runs other brands such as ITEL, Techno, may outperform Samsung in Africa and the Middle East regions.
Global smartphone market will be 140 million units
The report suggested that the global smartphone market will grow by 7% to reach 140 million units in 2021, due to the proliferation of 5G smartphones.
Xiaomi holds 27% market share in India
A news published last month reported that Chinese smartphone makers lead the Indian smartphone market, recording 100 million shipments in the second half of 2020.
Xiaomi holds 27% market share in India, followed by Samsung with 20%, Vivo with 14%, Realme with 11% and Oppo with 10%. In India, Xiaomi also leads in the Smart TV space with the smartphone segment.
