Tally crossed 20 lakh license users, is included in the world’s top-3 business software companies
Bengaluru-based Tally Solutions Private Limited has carved a niche for itself in the market for small and medium businesses through business and accounting software. The company has a 70% market share in this business in the country. Tally is counted among the top three business software used worldwide.
Shyam Sunder Goenka started the company in 1986 with his son Bharat Goenka. In 2016, the number of users of the company touched 10 lakh and after that the number doubled in just five years. Currently, the company has more than 7 million users.
Talking about the license holder users, that number is 20 lakhs, while the number of unlicensed is 3-4 times more. It has spread over the years and today has established itself as a comprehensive business management solution. It not only fulfills the accounting requirement of a business, but has also become a simple solution to other aspects like banking, inventory, payroll and taxation.
According to the needs of the market, the tally has become a tremendous medium for those who do not have computer expertise, but they are using the tally easily. This makes Tally’s motto ‘Power of Simplicity’ completely meaningful. It is also called by users as a simple-to-use product.
Tally was the first company in the world to come up with codeless accounting software. Unlike any other accounting software available in the market, the company intentionally decided to write PFA software without using coded language, so that it could be easily used by small businesses. As it helped businesses in their seamless transition from traditional book-based accounting to accounting on computers, software became a successful medium in its early years and went on to establish Tally as a market-demanding software brand.
Tally is headed by Managing Director (MD) Tejas Goenka and Executive Director Nupur Goenka. Under his leadership, the company is making quadrupled growth day and night.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of trade and industry, the Government of India honored Bharat Goenka with the Padma Shri in 2020. In 2011, NASSCOM honored Goenka with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. Also given the title of ‘The Father of the Indian Software Product’. In addition, he was awarded the CSI Honorary Fellowship Award by the Computer Society of India in 2014.
