China Import: Smartphones, laptops can be expensive, this is the reason
The availability of smartphones, tablets and laptops in India in the next few days may be affected. The government has 80 applications pending for more than six months for imports of devices made in China by American, Chinese and Korean companies. According to industry sources, applications related to the import of such components have been pending since November last year.
Smartphone and laptop companies that import goods from China include Wi-Fi modules, Bluetooth speakers, wireless earphones, etc. Wi-Fi modules are used to make smartphones, smart watch and laptops, etc., which are being accused of intentionally delaying in allowing imports. Because of this, Chinese smartphone companies Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Lenovo are pushing forward the launch dates of their new products, along with American computer makers like Dell and HP.
Government of India not allowing: It is alleged that the Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC) of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Government of India has not approved such applications since November. Sources associated with this case have given this information. It is lobbying for permission on these applications. Many Indian companies also import such components from China, their applications are also pending. Dell, HP, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Lenovo declined to comment on this.
Industry delegation found: The Telecom Ministry of the Government of India has also refused to speak on the issue. Sources said that the industry body and the delegation of companies making smartphones and laptops had sought to meet the government and take action on the matter, but so far the government has not done anything about it.
Problem of studies in corona crisis: In view of the growing Corona crisis in India, schools and colleges were closed since March last year. Because of this, the children studying needed more laptops, smartphones and tablets. Attempts to reduce imports from China have led to accusations of not approving imports of finished products.
Trying to reduce imports from China: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has made big plans to make the country self-reliant. The import of finished products from China is being banned for this reason. Efforts are constantly being made to reduce imports from China. The Indian government has declared and unannounced restrictions on imports from China following the killing of Indian soldiers in a violent skirmish on the China border in Ladakh. Since then, there has been a steep increase in customs duty on imports of many commodities. The Indian government has imposed several conditions on Chinese companies doing business in the country. Along with this, steps are being taken to ban the import of finished products completely.
Trying to promote construction in the country: The Government of India has taken several steps to promote the manufacture of electronics along with smartphones, tablets and laptops in the country. Companies are also being given Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for this. Sources associated with the matter say that the government has delayed approving applications related to the import of the finished product so that companies start manufacturing such products in India.”The government’s idea is to force companies to manufacture such products in India itself,” a source said. This has made it difficult for tech companies. Creating these products in India means a long wait for them to make big investments and earn returns.
