Google too agreed after Facebook, said – will be as the government wants
There has been a ruckus about the government’s new guideline released for social media and OTT platforms. WhatsApp has also knocked on the Delhi High Court. WhatsApp has said that the implementation of the new guidelines of the government will end the privacy of its users and will also be a violation of the constitution. Meanwhile, Facebook has said that it has no objection to the new guideline. After Facebook, now Google has also said that it will offer its services in India as per the new guidelines of the government.
A Google spokesperson said, “We have realized that we have never been successful in keeping our platform completely secure but we will not give up our efforts. We will keep our policy as transparent as possible. We respect the law of the Government of India. We have a long history with the Government of India that whenever a complaint about any objectionable content comes, we investigate it and then we remove it when needed. We will fully comply with local law.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Facebook also said that it will work according to the new guidelines of the government, although Facebook also said that it is in talks with the government on many other issues.
Explain that in February this year, the Cabinet Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Law and Justice in the Government of India, Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that the government welcomes the right of criticism and disagreement, but for social media users to complain it, is very important. Under the new rules, social media platforms must have a grievance redressal mechanism, they will also have to mention the name of a grievance officer who will file a grievance within 24 hours and settle it in 15 days.
