Apple in talks with Chinese companies for batteries for electric cars
Gadget company Apple has intensified preparations to launch its electric cars in the market. For this, talks have been started with China’s CATL and BYD companies regarding the battery.
The company is ready to launch a self-driving e-car by 2024
Apple has not yet made a public announcement, but it is believed that by the year 2024, it will launch a self-driving e-car. CATL is the world’s largest car battery manufacturer. It also supplies many of these equipment to the major electric car company Tesla. BYD, on the other hand, ranks fourth in battery production. Due to this news of Apple, its shares have increased by 6.5 percent.
According to sources, Apple is in the process of making lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are believed to be cheap. They use iron instead of nickel and cobalt. On the other hand, US President Joe Biden has also budgeted $17,400 million under tax exemptions and grants to battery producers to increase domestic e-vehicle production.
Renault accused of cheating in emissions testing of diesel vehicles
French automaker Renault has been accused of cheating on emissions testing of its diesel cars. The company, however, refuted the allegations saying that its vehicle pollution control equipment does not have any rigging software. It has always followed the rules in France and throughout Europe. These allegations affect the image of Renault.
Indeed, prosecutors have alleged that Renault cheated in emissions tests for diesel cars. In the past, several automakers have been accused of manipulating fuel emissions figures by using rigging software. Volkswagen and Peugeot have also faced similar allegations. In several years of dispute, Volkswagen had to pay around 32 billion Euros (about Rs 2.84 lakh crore) in penalties, legal expenses, etc. Peugeot also faced scrutiny.
