New IT rules Google, Facebook, Insta released first compliance report, Ravi Shankar Prasad praised
Social media platforms such as Google, Facebook and Instagram have published their first compliance reports on automatic removal of objectionable posts under the new IT regulations in force in the country. Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad praised them for this initiative and called it a big step towards transparency.
Reports to be issued monthly
Under the new information technology (IT) rules, large digital platforms with more than 50 lakh users will have to publish compliance reports every month. The report will mention the complaints received and the action taken on them.
Prasad tweeted, “It is heartening to see important social media platforms like Google, Facebook and Instagram complying with the new IT norms. Publication of the first compliance report on automatic removal of objectionable posts by them as per new IT rules is a big step towards transparency.
Grow on Twitter, the government has expressed its displeasure
This is may put pressure on Twitter to issue compliance reports by the three social media platforms that create deadlock with the government over the new rules. The government had expressed displeasure with Twitter for not complying with the country’s new IT rules and not appointing officers for it.
Which social site did what action?
Facebook: In its first monthly compliance report on Friday, the site said it processed more than 30 million content across 10 categories of violations between May 15 and June 15 in the country.
Instagram : processed nearly two million posts, photos, videos and comments across nine categories in the same period.
Google: Google and YouTube received 27,762 complaints from users in India for alleged violations of local laws or private rights in April this year and removed 59,350 content (posts, photos, videos and comments) as a result.
Koo: Indian social media company Koo has also given its report in this regard.
