Yahoo shuts down its news websites in India, e-mail users will not make any difference

Yahoo has banned its news website in India. Yahoo’s decision comes in the wake of new FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) rules, which have been asked to limit foreign ownership of media companies that publish digital content in India.

This includes Yahoo News, Yahoo Cricket, Finance, Entertainment and Makers India. However, this will not affect the Yahoo e-mail and search experience of the users. While issuing a notice, Yahoo said, ‘Yahoo India will not publish any content from August 26, 2021. Your Yahoo account, e-mail, and search experience will remain unaffected and will continue to function as usual. We thank our readers.

Yahoo e-mail will not make any difference

US tech major Verizon acquired Yahoo in 2017. In the FAQ section, Yahoo said that with effect from August 26, 2021, the company has stopped publishing digital content. The company said that we have not taken this decision in a hurry. Yahoo has been affected by the changes in the rules for digital content publishing in India and hence the company has taken this decision. Yahoo has a long association with India, we have provided service to its users for the last 20 years.

The company thanked Indian users and said that over the past two decades, users have shown a lot of support and trust in Yahoo. According to the new FDI rules that will come into effect in October, digital media companies in India can accept investments up to 26 percent as foreign investment, as mandated by the central government.
