Volkswagen Taigun 10 thousand SUVs booked in a month before launch, know its specialty

Germany’s leading automaker Volkswagen is going to launch its Taigun SUV in India. It will be available for sale in the market from 23 September 2021. The bookings started on 18th August and within 30 days the SUV has received over 10,000 pre-orders. Speaking to a web portal, Klaus Zelmer, Member of Marketing and Board of Volkswagen Brand, revealed that the company aims to retail around five to six thousand units of Taigun on a monthly basis.

Let us tell you, once the Taigun is launched, it will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the recently launched Skoda Kushak. MG’s upcoming Astor SUV will also compete with the VW Taigun. Interestingly, the Taigun will be Volkswagen’s first model to feature the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform under the brand’s India 2.0 programme. Production work for the new Volkswagen mid-size SUV is underway at Skoda Auto’s Chakan plant in Pune.

What is the specialty?

Volkswagen Taigun GT Automatic Edition gets some additional features including sunroof, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, paddle shifters, auto dimming inside mirrors, tire pressure loss indicator, red brake calipers, side and curtain airbags. Push button start, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED headlamps have been given.

The GT manual variant of the Taigun will get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, automatic climate control, electronic stability, touch operable panel, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera. On the exterior, the Volkswagen Taigun GT model gets differently designed headlamps, alloy wheels and a lot of chrome touches.

The range-topping, sportier GT variant of the Taigun will only be available with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine and a 7-speed DSG automatic/6-speed manual gearbox combination. The gasoline unit is good enough for 148 bhp power and 250 Nm of torque. The SUV model lineup will also be offered with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol motor that can be mated to a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
