Rajiv Agarwal appointed as Public Policy Director of Facebook India, has previously served in Uber

Facebook India has appointed former IAS officer Rajiv Agarwal as Director of Public Policy. Rajiv will be responsible for the policy of Facebook in India and subsequent development changes etc. Facebook today announced the name of Rajiv for the post of its Public Policy Director. Rajiv Agarwal will replace Ankhi Das who resigned in October last year following a controversy. 

The biggest responsibility of Rajiv Agarwal in India will be regarding user safety, data protection and privacy. Agarwal will report to Ajit Mohan, managing director of Facebook India in India. Rajiv was earlier serving in Uber. Rajiv was the Public Policy Head for Uber India and South Asia. Rajeev Agarwal has previously served as an IAA for 26 years. He has served in 9 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

After the appointment of Rajiv Agarwal, Facebook said in a statement that Rajiv worked on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (Ministry of Commerce) during his tenure as an Administrative Officer. Apart from this, Rajiv was also associated with the India-US Bilateral Business Forum during his tenure. 

Facebook’s Ankhi Das left the post in 2020

Let us tell you that last year, Facebook’s India Policy Head Ankhi Das left the post. She was accused of bias towards the BJP. During his tenure, there was a controversy over the broadcast of hate speeches on Facebook in the country. A newspaper alleged that Facebook had allowed anti-Muslim posts. However, Facebook has denied the allegation and said that it does not support any party. Ankhi Das was the first Facebook official in India.
