Government has now simplified the process of buying and porting SIM sitting at home, changes in KYC rules
The government has allowed Self-KYC (Know Your Customer) process, making the process of buying a new SIM, porting, converting mobile number from prepaid to postpaid and postpaid to pre-paid easier.
Now there is no need to submit documents or any form for KYC
To take advantage of these facilities, you will be able to complete KYC related processes from home through online means. That is, you will not need to submit any paper or form for KYC.
The Department of Telecom said in the orders issued on Tuesday that self-KYC will be app or portal based. Consumers have to pay only Re 1 fee for e-KYC. After this move of the government, consumers will not need a new KYC to change mobile number from prepaid to postpaid and postpaid to prepaid.
Currently these facilities require KYC every time. For this, the consumers have to carry the original documents related to ID and address proof at the point of sale of the telecom companies. As per the order, Aadhaar based e-KYC has been reintroduced for getting a new SIM. Apart from this, customers will also be able to get their mobile number from prepaid to postpaid and postpaid to prepaid through OTP.
This is how self-KYC can be done
- To get a new SIM, the consumer will have to download the company’s mobile app.
- An alternate number has to be given for registration.
- A relative’s number is also valid if there is no alternate number.
- After receiving OTP on that number, the user will be registered.
- After that he will be able to do self KYC by logging in through OTP.
