Google may end unlimited chat backup facility for WhatsApp users, know details
WhatsApp is currently working on a new feature that will give users more control over Google Drive backup of chats. With the help of this feature, users will be able to decide what will be backed up and what will not. With its help, you will also be able to control the size of your backup, but the reason for this new feature can disappoint many users.
Currently, Google Drive is a very handy way to back up WhatsApp chats, where users can upload all their chats, including pictures and videos, here without worrying about the backup size. There is no limit on this. But now that’s about to change.
Storage limit on Google Drive backup
According to a report by WaBetaInfo, Google will soon announce a limit on the free WhatsApp Chat Backup. Earlier this year, Google Photos ended free storage for its users to back up photos. Now these photos are also being counted in the 15GB free storage of Google account and to get extra storage, users will have to take a subscription plan. Something similar will now happen for WhatsApp Chat Backup as well.
As per the report, Google may offer a limited plan that will allow users to backup only 2000MB per user. In addition, the company may offer other payment options to users who want to have more backup.
Manage option will be available in WhatsApp Chat Backup
According to the report, WhatsApp is working on a new ‘Manage Backup Size’ feature, which will give users the option to select the items present in that chat backup. Users will be able to select what will be backed up and what will not. Users will also see their backup storage space, which will help them keep this size within the chat backup space of Google Drive.
While taking a backup, users will get the following options:
- Photo
- include audio
- include video
- Documents
- other media
The chat database and user settings files will be backed up automatically and users will not be able to close it. At the moment, neither Google nor WhatsApp has given any information about the end of unlimited backup. We hope to get more information about this in the coming days.
