TataNeu app to launch on April 7: Tata Group’s super app will also have flight and hotel bookings; Direct Competition from Amazon, Flipkart, Jiomart
Tata Group will launch its most awaited super app New (Neu) on 7th April. The company said that from April 7, you will be able to download this app from the Google Play Store. The main objective of the Tata Group is to grow the digital wing of the company as a whole. So that the already existing companies in the market like Amazon, Flipkart and Reliance Group’s JioMart can be given a tough competition.
Tata’s new app is being claimed to get airlines, hotels, medicines and groceries on one platform. A photo of the interface of the TataNeu app has also been revealed. Along with the dark theme, many different icons with multiple uses are visible in this app. You will also be able to book a car from the app.
What are these super apps?
Blackberry founder Mike Lazaridis coined the term SuperApp in 2010. Even after this, none of the super apps that came out are from America, Europe or UK. Super App, means a platform on which all the needed goods and services are available.
One such app in China is WeChat. It started as a messaging app. After this, payments, shopping, food ordering, cab services were also available on it and thus it became a super app. You can also imagine Super App as a mall, where in the retail space you will find shops of all brands and businesses and verticals.
Who Makes Super Apps?
Usually such companies make super apps, which offer a variety of services and products. They try to bring these offerings on one platform through Super App.
The concept of SuperApp first surfaced in China and South-East Asia. WeChat, GoJek, Grab started offering additional services to increase their revenue. These companies took these steps to increase customer traffic on their platforms based on social media and communication needs.
However, a different approach emerged in the West Asia region. Traditional business groups such as Majid Al Futtaim Group, Emaar, Chalhub Group had shopping malls, grocery and entertainment businesses. He created digital assets and turned them into super apps. More than one product is now available on it.
According to Internet consultancy firm RedSeer, the customer footfall on digital assets of these business groups increased and the number of repeat customers also increased. This became the basis for the growth of SuperApp in any field. Tata’s plan to bring its consumer offerings on a single platform matches those of the Gulf region’s business groups.
Why do Indian companies want to make super apps?
A country or region is considered ready for a super app when a large population wants more and more services and features from a smartphone rather than a desktop. The lack of an ecosystem of apps to meet the local needs is also a major reason for this.
India is becoming a market where a large population is using the Internet. Today 90% of the subscribers are surfing the internet through mobile. Because of this most companies are making super apps. Apart from this, Super Apps is able to gather more information about user behavior from consumer data along with increasing revenue.
