Government’s big action: Block 22 YouTube channels spreading fake news, the security of the country was threatened
Taking a major action, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) blocked 22 YouTube channels, three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account and one news website. According to PIB’s tweet, for the first time in India, action has been taken against the YouTube channel. The government has taken action on YouTube channels spreading fake news and information under the new IT Rule 2021 that came into force last year.
PIB has shared the details of blocked YouTube channels, Twitter, Facebook accounts and news websites in its press release. Also, screen-shots of thumbnails of these YouTube channels were shared, through which fake news was being spread.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry of the Central Government has taken action against 18 Indian YouTube channels. Apart from this, 4 YouTube channels were Pakistani. According to the government, the thumbnails used in the logos of these YouTube channels were fake and were giving wrong information to the user. The blocked YouTube channels had a viewership of 260 crores.
According to the press note issued by the government, there was a threat to the security of the country due to the fake news being spread by these YouTube channels, due to which action has been taken on these channels. Not only this, due to these fake news, India’s relations with other countries could have deteriorated.

Apart from these YouTube channels, Ghulam NabiMadni (Followers – 5,553), DunyaMeryAagy (Followers – 4,063), Haqeeqat TV (Followers – 323,800) Twitter accounts have also been blocked. Not only this, DunyaMeryAagy’s Facebook account has also been banned. The government has also blocked Pakistani news website DunyaMeryAagy.
