Data Center Capacity: Data center capacity will increase by 2025, investment of 40000 crores will be done

Data center capacity is expected to double by FY2025. It is currently 870 MW which may increase to 1,700 to 1,800 MW. Also, an investment of Rs 40,000 crore is expected till then.

According to a report, the demand for data will increase rapidly with the increasing digitization and localization of 5G services by the end of this year. The Crisil report said that the demand for data centers and cloud storage has been increasing for some time now. The focus is on corporate advance technology and digital infra. On the other hand, smart devices are also increasingly used by people.

Working from home increased demand for data

According to a Crisil report, wireless mobile data traffic grew by 31 percent to 253 exabytes (1 billion gigabytes in 1 exabyte) in 2021. Because a large number of people worked from home due to the closure of offices due to Corona. This increased the demand for data.

Data demand will increase with 5G

It has been estimated in the report that with the introduction of 5G service, the demand for data will increase further. Along with this, the government is also focusing on all digital initiatives. It said data centers are emerging as an attractive infra asset class in the country. The report estimates that Mumbai will top the demand for data which is already using almost half of the current capacity. Apart from this, demand of 400 MW can come in Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune going forward.
