5G in India: The central government has taken a big step to start 5G service in India. Auction of 5G spectrum has been approved in the meeting of the Central Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (June 15). After getting approval from the cabinet, DoT (Department of Telecom) will be able to allocate spectrum bands for 5G.
The cabinet has decided to allot spectrum to telecom companies for 20 years. After the 5G spectrum auction (5G spectrum auction), BSNL can start its 5G service along with the three private telecom companies Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-idea.
Auction process will be completed on 26th July
According to the report of PIB, the auction process of 5G spectrum band will be completed by July 26. According to the report, companies can apply for 5G auction till July 8. At the same time, the final list of companies participating in the auction will be made live on July 20. DoT will conduct the mock auction on July 22 and 23. DoT has sought clarification from NIA by June 22, which will be made public by June 30.
According to the statement issued by the government, the Department of Telecommunications will auction 72097.85 MHz (MHz) spectrum. Giving relief to telecom companies, the government has also done away with the requirement of advance payment for spectrum. The government has asked the successful bidding telecom company to pay the spectrum amount in 20 EMIs, eliminating the burden of levying a lump sum amount on the telecom companies.
These spectrum bands will be auctioned
For 5G, DoT will auction 600MHz, 700MHz, 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2300MHz low-frequency bands, 3300MHz mid-frequency bands and 26GHz high-frequency bands.
The Central Government has given relief to the companies participating in the auction of spectrum to improve the telecom sector and promote high speed internet connectivity in the country. Keeping in view the ease of doing business, the Union Cabinet has directed to pay the bid amount for spectrum in 20 easy installments.
Telecom companies will be allotted 5G spectrum for 20 years. If the telecom company wants, it can also surrender the spectrum after 10 years.
10 times faster internet speed
After the start of 5G service, 10 times faster internet will be available than the current 4G. Also, connectivity will be better as well. Telecom companies will start the service a few months after the spectrum auction is done. Airtel, Jio and Vi have tested 5G service in many cities. 5G service can be launched first in these cities.
