Adani Group: Adani Group will also bet on telecom spectrum, will compete with Jio and Airtel

The country’s veteran businessman Gautam Adani’s group is now about to enter the telecom sector as well. According to sources, the Adani Group is planning to join the race for telecom spectrum. At the same time, it will directly compete with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio and telecom giant Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Airtel.

The July 26 auction of airwaves capable of providing fifth-generation 5G telecommunications services such as ultra-high-speed internet connectivity closed with four applications. Sources said that apart from Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea, which has applied for the fourth auction is Adani Group. Sources said the Adani Group had recently obtained National Long Distance (NLD) and International Long Distance (ILD) licenses.

Applicants’ ownership details will be published on July 12

However, this could not be independently confirmed. Emails and phone calls to Adani Group did not elicit any response. As per the auction deadline, the applicants’ ownership details are to be published on July 12. A total of 72,097.85 MHz of spectrum worth at least Rs 4.3 lakh crore will be put on the block during the auction beginning July 26, 2022.

The auction will be conducted for spectrum in various low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz) frequency bands.

now face to face

Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are residents of Gujarat, which is the largest business conglomerate of the country. But the two did not directly meet in any business. Ambani has expanded from the oil and petrochemical business to telecommunications and retail, while the Adani Group has expanded from the port segment to coal, power distribution and aviation.

But now both of them are facing each other. Because Adani has recently set up a subsidiary company for entry into petrochemicals. The business of petrochemicals is in a way Ambani’s ancestral business which was started earlier by Ambani’s father Dhirubhai.

First direct competition between Ambani-Adani

Ambani also announced multi-billion dollar plans for new energy business including solar panels, batteries, green hydrogen. So while Adani had announced plans to become the world’s largest renewable energy producer by 2030, it also disclosed hydrogen production. And now, if the Adani Group participates in the 5G auction on July 26, it will be the first direct competition with Ambani.
