Meesho added eight local languages on its platform.
New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) SoftBank-backed e-commerce company Meesho has added eight new vernacular languages to its platform and aims to bring in 377 million potential customers across different regions. The company gave this information on Friday.
Meesho has integrated Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya languages on its platform keeping in mind the regional consumer. Meesho customers will now be able to operate their accounts, access product information and place orders in their preferred language.
Sanjeev Barnwal, Chief Technology Officer, e-commerce company, said in a statement, “About 50 per cent of our consumers are new to e-commerce and many may have never transacted on such platforms. Meesho aims to bridge the linguistic barriers by offering a local language option on its platform.
Last year, Meesho gave Hindi language option on its platform. “The company aims to bring in around 377 million potential consumers with us,” the statement said. Most of Meesho’s consumers are from tier II and non-Hindi speaking cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Jamshedpur where English and Hindi may not necessarily be the preferred language.”
