VLC Media Player banned in India, website and download link blocked.
VLC Media Player has also been banned in India now. Most of the smartphone users must be aware of VLC media player. Millions and millions of users have been using this media player for years, but now they will not be able to use it.
The process of ban in India has started for the last two years, which is not over yet. This time VLC Media Player has been banned in India. However, a report by Medianama states that VLC Media Player was launched in India about 2 months back, but the government or the company had not shared any information about it yet.
VLC Media Player banned
According to the report, VLC media player has also been banned under the IT Act, 2000. If you open the VLC Media website now, you will see a message on your screen to be banned under the I Act. However, it is still not banned completely.
According to the report, it is a soft ban. If the VLC media player software is already installed on a device, it will still work, but if it is not, it will no longer work. However, the website and download links have been banned in India. This service has been banned on all major internet service providers like ACTFibernet, Jio, Vodafone-idea and other platforms.
Chinese connection made
According to reports, Chinese connection is being said to be behind the ban of VLC media player. A Chinese hacking group Cicado used this video player platform for cyber attacks in India.
India’s cyber security experts found a few months ago that this Chinese hacking group is using VLC Media Player to spread a suspected malware loader, which could be a major threat to India. For these reasons this platform has been banned in India.
However, till now the Government of India or the company has not issued any official statement regarding the ban in India. Something similar happened at the time of banning the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, BGMI.
The Government of India had removed BGMI from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store after prior investigation and planning. BGMI is also banned in India due to national security. Even before that in 2020, the Government of India had banned more than 270 Chinese apps due to these reasons.
