Satellite Network: Jio will also launch satellite internet, these companies will compete.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approved the satellite unit of Reliance Jio. DoT has also issued Letter of Intent (LOI) to the company. Now Jio may soon release Global Mobile Personal Communication Satellite (GMPCS) services in India. It is expected that Jio may also release voice services along with internet services. Let us tell you that earlier, satellite internet company Hughes Communications has announced to provide satellite internet service in India with the help of ISRO.
Actually, Reliance Jio had announced the launch of 5G connectivity in major cities of the country by Diwali only last month. The company had said that by the end of 2023, the whole of India will be connected with 5G connectivity. Now with the DoT permission to Jio, Jio can work faster on satellite internet. Reliance Jio’s satellite unit can release satellite services in areas for which it has a license. These will include data as well as voice services.
The satellite unit of Jio is also known as Jio Satellite Communication Limited (JSCL). This mobile satellite network will work in sync with geosynchronous satellites in addition to low-Earth orbit, medium-Earth orbit. Let us tell you that in February this year itself, Jio has also partnered with worldwide satellite-based connectivity company SES for satellite internet, in which Jio Platforms and SES will have 51% and 49% equity stake respectively in the joint venture. .
Hughes announces satellite internet
Before Jio, satellite internet company Hughes has announced to provide satellite internet service in India with the help of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Hughes Communications India is going to provide satellite internet service with the help of ISRO’s GSAT-11 and GSAT-29 communication satellites. The company says that this will provide high-speed satellite based internet facility across the country.
How Satellite Internet Works
Data transfer from space is done using laser beams instead of satellite internet wires. In order for the laser signal to be good, a satellite communicates with four more satellites nearby. Then those satellites connect with four other satellites. In this way a network of satellites is created in the sky, which provides high speed internet on the ground. That is, the speed of satellite internet is higher than broadband and it can be connected to internet connectivity even in those areas where there is no broadband connectivity or there is a problem of internet speed.
