Moonlighting: Wipro said that the office will have to come three days a week, the company has done layoffs last month.
Wipro has made preparations to rein in moonlighting i.e. working in two places simultaneously. It has sent an email to the employees saying that they will have to come to the office three days a week. This rule will be implemented from October 10. With this, the office will not be opened on Wednesday. In the email, the company said that this move will increase the speed of the team and also connect with those who are working in a hybrid way. Last month, Wipro had fired 300 such employees.
Earlier, TCS, another IT company, had asked 85 per cent of its employees to come to the office thrice a week. Whereas senior officers will have to come to office 5 days a week. Due to Kovid-19, companies had given permission to work from home. After this it was seen that the employees were doing two jobs at the same time which is called Moonlight.
What does moonlighting mean?
When an employee works for another company or project in addition to his regular job, it is technically called moonlighting. Many people work for other companies or projects without informing the company.
Moonlighting is different from freelancing
It is completely different from Freelancer because Freelancers are not regular employees of any company and companies only pay them wages for the work. However, apart from the salary to the regular employees, many other allowances are given by the companies. Many people in the industry object to getting regular salary from one company and working in another project.
Moonlighting increased during the Corona period
Moonlighting has increased in the country with the Corona period because during that time people were scrambling for additional income due to reduction in salary or job loss. On the other hand, small companies were offering work on a project basis to reduce the cost, due to which the trend of moonlighting increased significantly.
