NPCI: Immigrants from these 10 countries will soon be able to use UPI for money transfer, NPCI approves.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has allowed expatriates from ten countries, including the US, Canada and the United Arab Emirates, to transfer funds (digitally) from NRE (Non Resident External) or NRO (Non Resident Ordinary) accounts using UPI. Is allowed.


NPCI said in a circular that it has been receiving requests to allow expatriates to use international mobile numbers for transactions in UPI (Unified Payments Interface).


In a circular issued on Tuesday, NPCI said it has asked UPI participants to set up a mechanism by April 30, under which non-residents with NRE/NRO accounts will be allowed to transfer money using their international mobile numbers. .


Initially, the ten countries for which this facility will be available include Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, US, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and UK. Wherein NRI and PIO, NRE and NRO accounts can be opened by any person resident outside India to take real in rupees.


“Initially, we will enable transactions from mobile numbers with country codes of ten countries and expand to other country codes in the near future,” said NPCI, which operates the UPI platform.


Vishwas Patel, Chairman, Payments Council of India (PCI) said, payment/money transfer facility will be there for NRIs on their arrival in India. Mandar Agashe, Founder and Managing Director, Sarvatra Technologies said, NRIs could not use the UPI network all these years due to SIM binding, which is an important security feature of UPI, which was available only for Indian SIM cards.
