Government will revive 50 airports, heliports; 75 thousand crore rupees will be invested.

New Delhi, PTI. To improve regional air transport, 50 airports, heliports, marine airports and advanced landing grounds will be revitalized across the country. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced this while presenting the general budget for the financial year 2023-24. The central government has launched several programs to make regional air traffic accessible, especially the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme.


They will be rehabilitated

Sitharaman in her budget speech said that fifty additional airports, heliports, aqua-airports and advanced landing lands will be revitalized. In addition, 100 important transport infrastructure projects have been identified to enhance connectivity to ports, coal, steel, fertilizer and food grains sectors. The Finance Minister said that these would be taken up on priority with an investment of Rs 75,000 crore. In this Rs 15,000 crore will come from private sources.


India is the third largest aviation market in the world today


About 1.5 crore people have traveled through ‘Udaan’ service in the last six years. Earlier on Tuesday, President Draupadi Murmu, during his address to the Parliament, had said that the country’s aviation sector is progressing rapidly. Giving the figure, he had said that till 2014 the number of airports in the country was 74, which has now increased to 147. India today is the third largest aviation market in the world. UDAN scheme has played an important role in this.
