UK Sinha and Deepali Goenka appointed independent directors of NDTV: Appointments made to ensure business purpose; tenure will be two years.
Adani Group-owned NDTV has appointed former SEBI chairman UK Sinha and business leader Deepali Goenka as independent directors. The tenure of both will be for two years from March 27, 2023.
The appointments have been made on the basis of the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the approval of the shareholders and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). According to reports, these appointments have been approved to ensure the independence and business purpose of NDTV’s Board of Directors in line with the Adani Group.
UK Sinha has been the chairman of SEBI for 7 years.
UK Sinha has been the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from 2011 to 2017. It is under his leadership that SEBI is credited with bringing significant regulatory amendments in areas such as the Takeover Code, Foreign Portfolio Investors and Alternate Investment Funds. Prior to this, he was the President and Managing Director of UTI Asset Management Company Private Limited for six years. He has also been Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
He has been honored with several awards for his contribution as SEBI Chairman, including CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Award (IBLA) – Outstanding Contribution to Indian Business Award (2014) and The Economic Times – Business Reformer of the Year Award (2014) is prominent. Sinha had joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1976, and holds an M.Sc. and LLB degrees.
Deepali Goenka is the CEO and Managing Director of Welspun India.
