Meta tightened, removed 28 million content on Facebook, Instagram in India.

New Delhi: Meta removed over 28 million pieces of content across 13 policies for Facebook and 12 policies for Instagram in India for the month of February in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021. From February 1 to February 28, Meta took action on more than 24.8 million pieces of content across 13 policies for Facebook and 3.3 million pieces of content across 12 policies for Instagram.

In February, META received 1,647 reports through the Indian complaint mechanism and responded 100 percent of those reports. In these reports, we provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 585 cases, Meta said. Of the other 1,062 reports that required special review, Meta reviewed the content in accordance with its policies and took action on a total of 379 reports.

The remaining 683 reports were reviewed, Meta said, but may not have been auctioned. Under the new IT Rules 2021, large digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users will have to publish monthly compliance reports. In the same period, Meta received 14,216 reports through the Indian complaint mechanism on Instagram and responded 100 percent of those reports.

That said, we measure the number of pieces of content (such as posts, photos, videos or comments) that we take action on for going against our standards. Taking action may include removing any content from Facebook or Instagram or covering photos or videos that may be upsetting to some viewers with a warning.
