Since its launch in the country, the country’s first semi high speed Vande Bharat Express is becoming a matter of curiosity among the passengers. Vande Bharat, which started between Delhi and Banaras, is now running on about a dozen routes. Meanwhile, Railways is preparing for major changes in Vande Bharat Express. Till now only sitting coach has been included in Vande Bharat. But soon sleeper coaches can also be seen in Vande Bharat.


A consortium led by public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged the contract for 80 sleeper class Vande Bharat trains. The contract is worth more than Rs 9,600 crore in total. The alliance is to supply 80 sleeper class Vande Bharat trains to the Indian Railways in six years.


Can start on these routes


There is a great demand for sleeper class Vande Bharat trains. They can be run especially on long routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah. All Vande Bharat trains currently running have chair car and special chair car classes only.


Contract for 80 Vande Bharat trains


The company informed the stock market on Tuesday that the BHEL-led consortium has bagged the contract for 80 Vande Bharat trains from the Indian Railways. Under this, the supply value of each train is Rs 120 crore excluding taxes and duties. According to the information given to the stock market, a maintenance contract has also been given for 35 years. BHEL will supply 80 trains in 72 months.
