Google rolls out auto-archive feature: Android users will be able to install apps even when the device’s storage is full.
Tech company Google has started rolling out the ‘auto-archive feature’ for Android device users. With the help of this feature, users will be able to install apps even when the storage of the device is full.
The auto-archive feature reduces the storage of apps that users don’t use often by almost 60%. The company has claimed that this feature reduces the size of the app without deleting the device’s data. Apps whose size is reduced by auto-archive appear on the device with a cloud icon.
What is the Auto-Archive feature?
Through Auto-Archive, Android device users will be able to free up space on their device without completely uninstalling the app. Less frequently used apps will be partially removed when the user starts the auto-archive feature. However, the icon of the app and the data of the users will be completely safe.
When users want to use these apps, they have to tap on the icon of the app to download it again. After this, he will be able to use this app from where he left it.
What did the company say about this feature?
Chang Liu and Lydia Gemmond, product managers for the Google Play Store, said that smartphone users don’t have to delete entire apps to free up space on their devices. Instead, they can sync the app with the help of the auto-archive feature.
How does the auto-archive feature work?
- When users install an app from the Play Store and the storage on the device is full, a pop-up window appears.
- A pop-up window will ask whether you want to use Auto-Archive?
- When users tap on Turn On, this feature will reduce the size of apps that have not been used for a long time.
- Now you will be able to install the app even if there is no storage on the device.
Google’s archive feature now available to app developers
Google has currently rolled out this feature only for developers who use App Bundle to publish their apps.
