Tourism industry will create 9 crore jobs this year: Growing medical, wellness, spiritual and adventure tourism segments in the country.
This year 8.8 crore new jobs will be created in the country’s tourism industry. This industry will contribute Rs 11.48 lakh crore (5%) to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This sector accounts for 13% of the total jobs. The adventure tourism segment will grow in India in the next decade with medical, wellness, spiritual, business travel. This has been said in a report by digital payment company Visa and professional services firm EY.
Foreign tourists spend 26 times more
The report titled ‘Charting the Course for India: Tourism Megatrends Unpacked’ states that foreign tourists spend 26 times more in India than domestic tourists. It has also been said in the report that globally the travel industry is expected to fully recover from the impact of Kovid in 2023. This year it will reach 85-95% of the pre-Covid level. India will also get a big benefit from this.
Allocation of Rs 2,400 crore for tourism in the general budget of 2023
- In the 2023 budget, the Center cut the expenditure on promotional activities abroad by 50%.
- This year 50% more than the tourism budget has been allocated for the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
- In the 2023 budget, Rs 2,400 crore has been kept for tourism without any change.
- Ministry of Tourism has closed tourism offices in 7 big cities like London, Tokyo, Beijing, Dubai, Singapore and New York.
- The Ministry will get this work done by the employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the embassies at these places.
- Despite this, a target has been set to bring 25 million tourists to the country by 2030.
