Physics Wallah’s dent in Byju’s stronghold, partnership with Kerala company, preparing to invest Rs 500 crore.
New Delhi: Physics Wallah, the country’s only profit-making ed-tech company, is now preparing to make a dent in Byju’s citadel. To strengthen its position in the Southern market, Physics Wala has entered into a strategic partnership with Xylem Learning, a Kerala based company. Under this, the company will invest Rs 500 crore in Xylem Learning over the next three years. Xylem Learning was founded by Dr. Ananthu S, a 26 year old MBBS graduate. This company prepares students for NEET and JEE. The company claims that it has given free classes to more than 3 million students through YouTube. Along with this, the company also has one lakh paid students. The company has five hybrid centers in Kerala where around 30,000 children take coaching.
Alakh Pandey, co-founder and CEO of Physics Wala, said that in the next three years, we will invest Rs 500 crore in Xylem. With this, the unique model of Xylem will be adopted in other states as well. This requires a strong team, content development, technical innovation, expansion into other categories and hybrid centres. Along with this, we will also see the scope of merger and acquisition in South. The company is expanding in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other markets in the South. Ananthu S said that his target is to achieve a revenue of Rs 300 crore in this financial year.
Direct collision with Byju
Byju Raveendran, the founder of the country’s largest edtech company Byju’s, is from Kerala only. South India is the biggest market for them. That is, in a way, the physics person is going to directly break into their stronghold. Physics Wala was founded by Alakh Pandey in 2016 as a YouTube channel. Later in 2020 it was registered as a company. In the current financial year, the company has set a revenue target of Rs 2,500 crore. It is the only ed-tech company in the country which is running profitably.
