Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign has got a big boost. In fact, South Korea’s leading electronics manufacturer Samsung has announced that it will manufacture its flagship smartphone models Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in India. The company is confident that with its recently introduced foldable phone, it will be able to further strengthen its hold in the Indian smartphone market. A senior company official gave this information.
Plan to introduce in the Indian market on 18 August
Samsung plans to launch its most expensive devices in the Indian market on August 18. Booking for these will be done from the midnight of 27th July. “Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 will be manufactured at the company’s Noida factory,” said JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia. Market research and analysis firm TechArc estimates that foldable smartphones will account for about 1.8 percent of the total smartphone market in 2023. This means that in the year 2023, more than 6.35 lakh foldable smartphones will be sold in India. Samsung started manufacturing the Fold 4 and Flip 4 series of products in India in December. Four months after the launch of these products in the market, their production started in India.
‘Made in India’ Galaxy Fold 5 phones will be available.
Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India, said that consumers in India will get ‘Made in India’ Galaxy Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 phones right from the start. He said that people in India want value for their products. “I have seen the same in rural markets. If customers get this, then acceptance is seen in new categories as well.
Storage capacity will be available up to one TB
Its internal storage capacity will be from 256 GB to 1 TB. The Galaxy Flip 5, on the other hand, will be available in India for Rs 99,999 to Rs 1,09,999. Market research and analysis company Counterpoint Research estimates that sales of foldable smartphones will reach 101.5 million units globally in 2027. In 2026 it will be 7.86 crore units. Samsung and Apple will dominate this market.
Won’t get spoiled even if immersed in water
A company official told that both the smartphones are equipped with Snapdragon 8th Gen chipset and IPX8 certification. This means that both these phones are water-resistant and will not get damaged even after being submerged in 1.5 meters deep water for half an hour. According to a market research firm, Samsung continues to lead the Indian smartphone market with a 20 per cent share in the March quarter of last fiscal. The company is also at the forefront of 5G equipment with a 24 percent share.
