Pakistan launches its own messaging app to compete with WhatsApp.
Pakistan has launched its own instant messaging app Beep Pakistan to compete with Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp. The Beep Pakistan app has been developed in partnership with Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and the National Information Technology Board (NITB).
At the launch of Beep Pakistan, Pakistan’s IT Minister Aminul Haq said that the country’s first messaging app is currently on a 30-day trial. After being successful in the trial, it will be released to the common people.
He further said that the Beep Pakistan app has the same facilities as other messaging apps ranging from document sharing to audio and video calling. The chats of this app are secure and photo-videos can also be sent easily. According to Haque, this app has been launched keeping in mind the possible dangers of data leaks and cyber attacks.
National Information Technology Board CEO Babar Majeed Bhatti said that the new app will help improve communication in government departments and there will be no risk of data leakage. The IT minister said that Beep Pakistan stores users’ data on local servers set up by the National IT Board. This ensures that there is no audio or video leak. “The app’s servers and source code are in Pakistan, which makes it 100 per cent secure,” Haque said.
