Coal India: World’s largest coal company will invest Rs 24,750 crore on 61 eco-friendly projects

Public sector Coal India Limited (CIL) has committed capital investment of Rs 24,750 crore on 61 connectivity projects (FMC) over the next few years to promote environment-friendly coal transportation.

Coal India, the world’s largest coal producing company, said in a statement that these projects related to transporting the coal coming out of the mines to the nearest transportation center will be established in three phases.

Upon completion of FMC projects, their total carrying capacity will be 76.35 crore tonnes.

A senior Coal India official said that it is important for coal transportation to be environment friendly so that the lives of people living near coal mines can be improved. He said, ‘These projects reduce pollution and carbon emissions caused by coal dust and also reduce the burden on road transport. This allows coal to be loaded in exact quantity and quality.

In the first phase, capital investment of Rs 10,750 crore will be made on 35 FMC projects with a carrying capacity of 41.45 crore tonnes. Of these, eight projects with a capacity of 112 million tonnes have already been commissioned.

According to the statement, Coal India is also preparing to commission 17 other projects with a capacity of 178 million tonnes. The remaining 10 projects of the first phase are likely to be commissioned by financial year 2024-25.
