Qatar Airways CEO leaves his post: Akbar Al Baker was associated with the airline for 27 years, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer will be the new CEO.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has announced his resignation today, Monday (23 October). He was associated with Qatar Airways for the last 27 years. The airline has appointed engineer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer as the new CEO of the company.
“After 27 years of service, I will be leaving Qatar Airways on November 5,” Baker wrote in a letter to Qatar Airlines employees. We began our journey in 1996 with a fleet of just five aircraft, unwavering dedication and a passionate and loyal team.
Known as one of the industry’s most outspoken and influential executives, Al Baker is credited with transforming Qatar Airways into one of the world’s top airlines. However, he has not given the reason why he suddenly resigned.
Operation on 160 destinations with 248 aircraft
The airline currently operates on 160 destinations across the world with 248 modern fuel efficient aircraft. Before being appointed as CEO of Qatar Airways in 1996, Baker worked in several government institutions.
CEO Baker’s India connection
CEO Baker also has deep ties with India. This veteran of the aviation industry did his schooling from St. Peter’s School, Mumbai and obtained an MBA degree from Mumbai also. According to the company website, Baker has graduated in Economics and Commerce.
