Big action from Google! 2500 Apps suddenly removed from Play Store, this is how they were defrauding people
Cyber crime is a serious problem. The government is continuously taking new steps to stop this. In this series, the Government of India had appealed to Google to remove fraud loan apps from the Play Store. Acting on this appeal, Google has removed more than 2,500 fraud loan apps from the Play Store. This action has been taken between April 2021 and July 2022. Fraud loan apps usually promise low interest rates and easy loans. But money is collected illegally from people through these apps.
Nirmala Sitharaman gave information
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told in the Lok Sabha that the government was continuously planning to take action against such apps. In this series, Google has removed 2,500 fraud loan apps from its Play Store. These apps were cheating people in the name of giving loans. This action was also discussed in the FSDC meeting. FSDC is an organization that works on cyber security. This organization had asked for cooperation between the government and Google in this matter.
Nirmala Sitharaman further said, ‘RBI had released the list of apps with the government. The government had shared this list with Google. It was found that these 2,500 fraud loan apps were being distributed with the help of app stores. This is the reason why Google decided to remove these apps.
3500 apps turned out to be fraud
Google has updated the policy of loan giving apps. All loan giving apps available on Play Store will have to follow this new policy. The government had told Google that many loan giving apps on Play Store are fraud. People were being cheated in the name of giving loans through these apps. Google investigated this complaint and found that about 3500 loan giving apps were fraudulent. Of these, it was decided to immediately remove about 2500 apps.
