New Delhi: The 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 is going on in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. This two-day summit is being organized till January 12. Tata Group has made a big announcement in this summit. Tata Group will build a semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Along with this, Tata Group will set up a factory to make lithium ion batteries in Sanand. Tata Group has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat. This will help India become a global chip hub. Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, speaking at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar, said the Tata Group is on the verge of finalizing and announcing a large semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera in the state.
It will start this year
“We are about to complete negotiations for the semiconductor fab and will commission it in 2024,” he said. The company may also start construction of a 20 GW battery storage factory in Gujarat within the next few months. “This ambitious initiative marks a strategic move by Tata to increase its presence in the renewable energy sector and contribute to India’s growing focus on sustainable power solutions,” Chandrasekaran said. Tata Group is also planning to build one of India’s largest iPhone assembly plants in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
50 thousand employees will get employment
According to media reports, the facility is expected to have about 20 assembly lines and employ 50 thousand workers within two years. The site is expected to be operational within 12 to 18 months. In September last year, American company Micron Technology started construction of a Rs 22,500 crore plant in Sanand, Gujarat, which will set a benchmark for India’s semiconductor journey.
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has also announced to invest up to Rs 830 crore to set up a fabless semiconductor chip design subsidiary, which will accelerate the country’s plan to become a semiconductor hub.
