Akasa Air: Akasa Air orders purchase of 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, deal at Wings India event
India’s new airline Akasa Air has placed an order for 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. It will use these aircraft to launch new flights into domestic and international markets. The airline, backed by the family of late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, had earlier ordered 76 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. This deal has been done during the Wings India events held in Hyderabad.
Of these, 22 aircraft have been delivered. Akasa, the newest addition to the Indian aviation sector, had earlier booked orders for 76 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Akasa has achieved a market share of 4% since it started flying in 2022, while IndiGo has 60% while the Tata group airlines have a combined share of 26%.

Last year, the airline faced difficulties when 40 of its pilots resigned without any notice to join Air India. This forced the airline to cut back on its flights and its market share declined by 1%. After that CEO Vinay Dubey had said that he has hired pilots and created a strong bench strength.
