Tata Layoff: Tata Steel is planning to close the furnaces of Port Talbot, 2,800 people will be laid off.
Tata Steel is planning to close its blast furnace at its Port Talbot plant in South Wales, Britain, leading to the loss of more than 2,800 jobs. Tata said that 2500 people will lose their jobs in the next 18 months. 300 more employees may lose their jobs in three years.
The company said- will take legal advice on job cuts
Tata Steel said that legal advice will be taken on job cuts, but no timeline has been given for this. Indian company Tata Steel has said that it will be given the opportunity to leave voluntarily and a support package of 130 million pounds will be given to help the affected employees.
Tata Steel said- the first blast furnace will shut down in mid-2024.
The news of layoffs at Tata Steel comes after the company announced plans to go ahead with the closure of the blast furnace at its Port Talbot plant in South Wales. Tata Steel on Friday said the first blast furnace will be shut down in mid-2024 and the remaining heavy assets will be decommissioned during the second half of the year.
Company took steps to stop reduction in carbon emissions
In September the steel giant said it had secured £500 million of taxpayer cash to cut emissions and curb financial losses and move towards cheaper, greener steel production.
