2.50 lakh jobs will be created in mobile phone manufacturing sector, production capacity of companies will increase.
The boom in mobile phone manufacturing activities is expected to generate up to 2.50 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the next 12-18 months. This will be possible due to the promotion of local manufacturing by the government and increase in mobile customers globally. Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron, the three manufacturing companies under contract with Apple in India, along with Indian company Dixon Technology, are also increasing manufacturing capacity. These companies are working rapidly to meet domestic and export demand.
Apple is aggressively shifting its manufacturing capacity from China to India. In the last three years, the Government of India has created five lakh jobs in this sector under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. To expand manufacturing capacities and woo equipment manufacturers, India has set a target of producing electronic goods worth $300 billion by 2025-26.
Apple will make iPhone worth $12 billion
Apple has set a target of manufacturing iPhones worth $12 billion in India in 2023-24. This will be about 12% of its construction taking place in the entire world. Recently Google has announced to make its Pixel smartphone in India. This is expected to create jobs on a larger scale.

According to an estimate, 12 lakh people are currently employed in the mobile phone manufacturing industry in India. It is expected to increase to around 15 lakh by financial year 2026. Out of these, one quarter jobs will be direct and the rest will be indirect.
