Grasim Industries debuts in paint business: Launches ‘Birla Opus’ brand, company will compete with Asian Paints and Berger
Grasim Industries on Thursday (February 22) debuted in the paint business with the brand ‘Birla Opus’. The company’s target is to become the number-2 player by competing with paint industry players like Asian Paints and Berger.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, said, ‘The paints business venture showcases India’s rapidly growing construction sector. No paint company has ever been launched in one go, Aditya Birla will be the first group to do so.
Company’s target of ₹10,000 crore in next 3 years
Mangalam Birla said, ‘The group is starting with plants in 6 states. With this capacity, we can overtake the current number-1 and number-2 players in the paint industry. The company is running with a target of Rs 10,000 crore in the next 3 years.
To establish itself in the paint industry in financial year 2023, Grasim doubled its planned investment to Rs 10,000 crore. With a manufacturing facility already operational in Haryana, Grasim is eyeing to create a capacity of 1,332 million liters per annum.
Products will be available in cities with population of 1 lakh by July
Birla Opus products will be available in Punjab, Haryana and Tamil Nadu by mid-March 2024 and in all 1 lakh population cities of India by July 2024. The company’s target is to rapidly expand the distribution of its products to more than 6,000 cities by the end of the financial year.
