Apple Layoff: Big layoff in Apple, 600 employees fired, know the reason
Apple Layoff: There has been a big layoff in tech giant Apple. According to a report, Apple has fired more than 600 employees in California. This decision has been taken as part of the closure of car and smartwatch display projects. This also means that the Apple Car project is now surrounded by uncertainties. NDTV has published this report quoting Bloomberg. The information about layoffs comes from a filing by the California Employment Development Department.
According to the report, 87 of the laid off employees had worked on next-generation screen development. The remaining employees were associated with Apple’s car project and worked in different buildings of the company. The report says that Apple started closing both the projects at the end of February.
One of the reasons for canceling the car project is the cost involved. Officials could not take concrete decisions regarding this project. The reasons for discontinuing the display program are said to be challenges related to engineering, suppliers and cost.
According to reports, 371 employees have been laid off from Apple’s main car office located in Santa Clara, California. Apart from this, retrenchment has also been done from many satellite offices. The company has also shifted many employees associated with the car project to other departments like Artificial Intelligence and Personal Robotics.
An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on how many employees have been laid off.
Earlier this year, there was news that Apple had changed its plans for the launch of Electric Vehicle (EV). The project, which began nearly a decade ago, is unlikely to be launched before 2028. There were reports that the company’s board put pressure on its management after spending millions of dollars on hardware and software without prototypes.
