Edtech startup Byju’s Own Company Aakash Education Services Limited has appointed Deepak Mehrotra as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company gave this information on Monday. The post was vacant after the resignation of Abhishek Maheshwari in September 2023 last year.
The company issued a statement saying, ‘Mehrotra has taken charge with immediate effect.’ At the same time, Byju’s Founder and Chairman Byju Ravindran said, ‘His professional skills and good track record as Managing Director of Pearson India will be important in taking Akash Byju’s to the next stage of growth and impact.’
Deepak Mehrotra has more than 35 years of experience
Deepak Mehrotra has over 35 years of experience in executive roles across sectors including FMCG, Telecommunication and Education. Earlier he was MD at Ashirwad Pipes from 2018 to 2023. Apart from this, he has also worked in leadership positions in Pearson India, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola and Asian Paints.
Byju’s acquired Aakash in 2021
Byju’s had acquired Aakash Education Services Limited for about $1 billion in the year 2021, which provides coaching to students preparing for competitive exams.
